Seating Arrangements
The seating arrangements can be a real mine field, but just sit quietly and think carefully; it is worth checking with all parents that there are no family 'histories' that you are not aware of!
Close family and friends are often put nearest the Top Table but seating is very much shaped by the area and tables available.
To ensure your guests are comfortable and that good conversation flows you should try where possible to seat together people that know each other, where this is not possible try to seat together similar age groups or guests with similar interests such as aunts and uncles, friends, work colleagues etc.
Guests may be very uncomfortable if they are seated with people they do not know. It is particularly important to bear this point in mind if you have round tables, because the temptation is to fill up the tables with unconnected guests.
The Top Table is usually an oblong so that the guests can view the Bridal party and the seating arrangement is normally:
Chief Bridesmaid |
Groom's Father |
Bride's Mother |
Groom |
Bride |
Bride's Father |
Groom's Mother |
Best Man |
NB: Due to different family and Bridal party structures this can be altered to suit.
